Demystifying acupuncture

Does it work? - This is the first question I usually occur when I introduced myself as an acupuncturist. In other cultures, acupuncture is the primary health care, and more of a last resort in the United States. But that is quickly changing as more and more people to seek alternative and complementary methods to gain relief from physical, mental and emotional ailments.

Let's take a few minutes to check (and expose) a few myths surrounding this ancient medicine.

I'm afraid of needles, so I can not receive acupuncture. Well, this is a fair statement. When acupuncture needles include the size you find in hospitals, I would not get treatment. The truth:

Acupuncture needles (sterile, single-use and disposable) about the width of a human hair and designed to go between the cells of the skin. Made of a thin flexible stainless steel, the tip is formed to the client to increase comfort during treatment. Some are even with silicone coated facilitate even more the onset.

Next question: Does it hurt? The answer is yes and no. The feeling of a needle going into the skin can feel like a mosquito bite or a small pinch. Sometimes there is a feeling of tingling, warmth, coolness or heavy feeling, both at the point of insertion and radiate from the point as the Qi (energy) travels through the body. Many styles of traditional acupuncture consider the qi feeling a prerequisite for an effective treatment, but not everyone feels this feeling at any point.

There is nothing wrong with me. I have people who are interested but believe in acupuncture, they are not good candidates because they are not in pain are met. Acupuncture is an excellent way to deal with pain, and is the primary reason why people are looking for here in the west, this special treatment.

However, Traditional Chinese Medicine is a complete medical model, the treatment of the symptoms (in addition to pain) related to the immune system, women's health concerns problems, mental health, digestive disorders, anxiety, insomnia, migraine and so on. Many symptoms can be common, but that does not mean that they normally. Premenstrual anxiety not to fall or stay asleep in a position or frequent headaches, for example, are the conditions that we learn to live. From a Chinese medical perspective, we really do not have to.

East can not meet West. This is not true. Acupuncture can complement and support with most, if not all Eastern and Western treatment methods. In fact, more and more scientific evidence and clinical studies, the benefits of acupuncture. Many people find they can reduce the amount of medication that immunity, relieve pain, and gain greater ease in their bodies. It is important to remember, however, do not cover any adjustments to your medication or treatment plan without first consulting your doctor.

Acupuncture is working, even if I do not believe it? YES! Animals do not believe in acupuncture and receive great benefits to patients in coma. Even court-ordered addicts get clean with acupuncture, despite a skeptical attitude. What really counts are the results that you experience and observe in your body. This is true evidence. You have to believe? No, you just have to be willing to try it....
