Lapis Lazuli - An Introduction

Lapis lazuli is not a mineral, but a rock that contains a variety of other minerals such as lapis lazuli, sodalite, calcite and pyrite (also known as fool's gold). The color of the stone is of a deep, rich royal blue with golden flecks to a lighter blue with white spots, and usually, it is the darker blue variety of the stone, which is the highest quality. The name of the stone comes from the Latin "lapis" means stone, and the Persian word "lazhuward" meaning blue.
